The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences (Phase 2)

The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences is a new hotel and residential tower on the UAE’s famous man-made palm-shaped peninsula, the Palm Jumeirah. Complementing the existing Atlantis Hotel, this massive structure showcases the best of The Atlantis hotel brand, with features that its guests and residents have come to appreciate and expect, including expansive views of the sea, pristine, lush outdoor landscapes and the ultimate in luxurious privacy.

Although the resort complex is enormous in scale, from a distance it appears light and airy, as if it was a screened terrace. This effect was created by designing several large exterior openings called “sky-courts”, which stagger and step down from high points (the hotel and apartment towers) on the east and west sides, towards a central bridge, that spans the building’s expansive, arched entranceway. From the main lobby below, this bridge acts as the top of a two-way “picture frame”, whose subject is the skyline view of Dubai in one direction, and the Palm Jumeirah on the opposite side.

On the ground level at the center of the structure is the main lobby. Filled with a soft interplay of natural light and shade during the day and dramatic lighting at night, this stunning oasis contains art and dramatic fish displays which help orient visitors to their rooms. The “sky-courts’” gateway arches on this ground level also help to direct guests, marking access points to lagoons, pools and the beach. Conference rooms, dining, retail and various other resort amenities are all placed between the “sky-courts’” open “breezeways.”

The “sky-courts” are lushly landscaped, with the larger guest rooms and apartments boasting private terraces complete with infinity-edge pools, trellis-shaded decks and gardens. The stepped and staggered design of these terraces not only ensures that its guests and residents will enjoy their privacy, but also a comfortable climate, with shade, prevailing breezes, and passive cooling from water and vegetation all taken into account.

Presidential suites, with additional adjoining rooms, can be found along the bridge levels, which themselves can be closed off and used for private functions. Hotel rooms and apartments are organized as a series of blocks, and as such, are capable of being independently operated. Apartment residents have access to their own amenities from their own sky-courts, located between six landscaped duplex townhouses, with private driveways and maids’ quarters, and lagoon-side views.

Both the apartment and hotel towers have access to a rooftop restaurant, and terrace down to a dramatic pool deck atop the connecting bridge, that boasts panoramic views of Dubai’s skyline.
